Rich in anthocyanins, cyanidin 3-glucoside identifiable (C3G) and in quantities less pelargonidin 3-glucoside (Pg3G). Several studies in animal models have shown that a diet enriched with anthocyanins of red corn is able to reduce the damage from myocardial infarction, to increase the blood levels of omega-3 (molecules known for the cardioprotective properties), to reduce the 'accumulation of abdominal fat and preventing obesity in the case of high-calorie diet and delay the onset of diabetic nephropathy. Numerous epidemiological studies confirm that consumption of anthocyanin-rich foods protect against several chronic diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging.
