Properties

Anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties on the smooth muscles of the digestive system. It has always been known as a plant with antispasmodic powers particularly suited to sedate painful manifestations, from intestinal colic to dysmenorrhea, it possesses undoubted properties such as anti-inflammatory, speeding up the healing of wounds, ulcer protective, antibacterial and, of course, antispasmodic. Its antispasmodic action means the plant is used as a sedative for the nervous system, even if its effect on the digestive system is the most important.

Nutraceuticals

  • Essential oil: chamazulene (responsible for the blue colour), a-bisabolol;
  • Proazulenes
  • Flavonoids: apigenin, luteolin, rutin, etc
  • Spiroethers  

    In particular: 

      • a-bisabolol, chamazulene, matricine, spiroethers: antiphlogistic action
      • a-bisabolol: antiseptic and anti-ulcer action 
      • apigenin and some flavonoids: spasmolytic musculotropic action

      The concentration of these constituents can vary greatly, especially in the essential oil

      • Coumarins: umbelliferone and herniarin
